Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs)
Curtin believes in ensuring that education is accessible to all. We offer Massive Open Online Courses (also known as MOOCs) that allow anyone to complete short courses on a variety of topics online for free.
Analytics for the Classroom Teacher
Analytics for the Classroom Teacher is an introduction to the emerging field of teaching and learning analytics from the perspective of a classroom teacher. Experts from all over the world will provide an overview of the current state-of-the-art in teaching and learning analytics.
You’ll learn how teachers, curriculum developers and policy makers are collecting and analysing data from the classroom to help guide decisions at all levels.
The course will then focus on the school teacher, and how data analytics can help you to make improvements in your classroom.
Environmental Studies: A Global Perspective
This environmental studies course is intended to introduce you to some of the basic principles in environmental studies, and how those are manifested in urban, rural and natural areas throughout the world.
Through observation, discussion, and creation of geo-referenced digital content, you will explore and share environmental challenges facing your local environment and create a global learning and action community.
Rather than simply offering a long list of the problems we face, this course will take a solutions-focused approach.
Digital Branding and Engagement
This is the first course in the CurtinX MicroMasters in Marketing in a Digital World credential.
In today’s interconnected, hyperaware world, brand awareness and brand engagement are synonymous. We are in the age of digital brand engagement, where brands need to participate in, and inspire, a two-way conversation with their consumers.
This course will teach you about this change and how it has altered the way brands communicate with their audiences. You will learn about the challenges of managing a digital brand and how rich and compelling content, combined with digital distribution, are integral to brand engagement.
Reputation Management in a Digital World
This is the second course in the CurtinX MicroMasters in Marketing in a Digital World credential.
In this course, you’ll take on the role of a communications manager for a fictional organisation, making key decisions that will affect its online reputation.
Throughout the course, you’ll learn from real life case studies and gain an understanding of the important role that blogs, Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat and other social platforms play in today’s business world.
This course is relevant to anyone working in marketing, communications, public relations, social media and advertising.
Buyer Behaviour and Analysis
This is the third course in the CurtinX MicroMasters in Marketing in a Digital World credential.
In this course, you will learn about the role of consumer behaviour within marketing and how consumer behaviour is shaped by the social and cultural environment, as well as a number of psychological factors. For marketers, an understanding of how a consumer selects, purchases, uses and disposes of products and services is pertinent to successfully managing the marketing function.
You will learn about decision-making processes in consumption behaviour in different buying situations whilst developing your ability to integrate marketing processes at a higher level.
The Business of Mining
Mining underpins modern society. A successful mine should be run efficiently and responsibly from exploration through to closure, with sound economic management every step of the way.
In this MOOC, as you learn the theory behind running a mine, you’ll dive headfirst into managing your own fictional gold mine. Experience the boom and bust of a typical mining life cycle and see if you've got what it takes to explore, plan, operate and close a major mining operation. You call the shots, but you also carry the risk.
Astronomy: Discovering the universe
What was the Big Bang? How do black holes work? Could there be life elsewhere in the Universe? In this course we will address those topics, as well as gaining some insight into how great scientific discoveries were made, and what's involved in scientific research.
We'll also look at the vital role that new technology plays in scientific discoveries. We'll talk to scientists about their role in the development of largest telescope in the history of astronomy: the Square Kilometre array.
