The Graduate Certificate in Paramedicine is a collaborative program offered by the School of Nursing, Midwifery and Paramedicine in conjunction with St John Ambulance Association, Australia.

Entry requirements

Entry requirements for Australian and New Zealand students

A Bachelor of Science (Nursing) or equivalent is desirable, and you must be registered as a comprehensive or general nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Western Australia. You must have at least 24 months experience in an acute area of practice. A hospital-based diploma may be considered.

The following clearances are required before applying for this course: Criminal record screening and clearance, Communicable Diseases, Working with Children, and a current WA driver’s licence. All prospective applicants will be subject to an interview and selection process with St John Ambulance Association and Curtin University.

2017 Domestic fee paying Domestic fee-paying - A domestic fee-paying place is a place at university which is not Commonwealth supported, that is, not subsidised by the Australian Government. Domestic fee paying students will be charged tuition fees and may be eligible for FEE-HELP assistance for all or part of those tuition fees. $11,800*

* Based on a first-year full-time study load of 100 credits. 100 credits are needed to graduate from this course. The total cost will depend on your course options (i.e. units selected and time taken to complete).

Career opportunities

Upon acceptance into the program, you will complete an induction program with St John Ambulance Western Australia (WA). Over a 12-month period, you will undertake both practical on-road and theory based assessments. You will graduate with a Graduate Certificate in Paramedicine and be offered the opportunity to work as a paramedic with St John Ambulance WA.

The course is specifically designed to allow registered nurses to work as ambulance paramedics.
