Oenology is the study of wine and wine making, as well as the wine industry, which is characterised by considerable crossover among core activities. It is not uncommon for people engaged in wine production roles to also have responsibilities for, or interactions with, both viticulture and wine marketing. Likewise, people engaged in viticulture or marketing and tourism roles are often required to draw on technical aspects of wine production and sensory evaluation of wines.
