Course overview

This honours course provides specialised training for graduates in research in Indigenous Australian contexts. A combination of coursework and a research project provides honours students with training and experience in research positioning in research methodologies and methods,and in using research literature critically.

This honours course can be taken full-time over one year or part-time over two years. The course is delivered by Block release, with students attending four Study Blocks over the course of each year. This is supplemented by Reverse Block visits each semester by Centre for Aboriginal Studies lecturers.

High achieving students may complete an additional honours year enabling them to undertake their own significant research project.

Entry requirements

Entry requirements for Australian and New Zealand students

Applicant enrolled in Bachelor of Arts (Indigenous Australian Cultural Studies) or equivalent may be invited to undertake the honours course if their semester weighted average is more than 70% in at least the previous two study periods of full time study.

2017 Commonwealth supported What is a Commonwealth supported place (CSP)? - A CSP is subsidised by the Australian Government. They pay part of the course fees directly to Curtin and then the student pays the remainder. The student can defer this fee to their HECS-HELP loan.

All Australian students studying an undergraduate degree are automatically awarded a Commonwealth supported place.

*The indicative first-year fee is calculated on 200 credit points, which is the typical full-time study load per year, however some courses require additional study to be completed, in which case the fee will be higher than that shown.
