Course overview

This double major is offered within the Bachelor of Commerce. Double majors can enhance your studies and support your career goals.

What the course involves:

The Tourism and Hospitality major will provide you with the relevant knowledge and skills to become an effective manager in the complementary sectors of tourism and hospitality in Australia and overseas.

Your study will include:

  • contemporary issues in international tourism
  • sustainable management of tourism
  • the impact of tourism on the local and global economy
  • the critical aspects of hospitality management
  • the role of marketing in both sectors.

In the Marketing major you will have the chance to explore:

  • international and internet marketing
  • sales management
  • research
  • product, pricing and promotion strategies
  • distribution strategies.

You can also analyse the behaviour of competitors and customers to discover how marketing can be used to predict customer demand for products, services or ideas.

Your study will involve interaction with industry groups as many of the units focus on real clients and case studies. There are opportunities for industry experience and professional placement to increase your interaction with industry while you study.

High achieving students may complete an additional honours year enabling them to undertake their own significant research project.

2017 Commonwealth supported What is a Commonwealth supported place (CSP)? - A CSP is subsidised by the Australian Government. They pay part of the course fees directly to Curtin and then the student pays the remainder. The student can defer this fee to their HECS-HELP loan.
